Our Story - The Inspiration Behind Just Don't Send Flowers

Thoughtful Gifts Inspired by Love, Hope & the Desire to Help

At Just Don't Send Flowers, everything began with one simple feeling:

"I want to help."

When someone you care about is facing cancer, recovering from surgery, dealing with illness, or simply going through one of life's hardest days, it can be difficult to know what to say—or what to send.

Over the years, we've learned something that has shaped every gift we create.

The best gifts aren't chosen just because someone is sick. They're chosen because you know who they are.

Some people appreciate encouragement. Others find comfort in faith. Some cope with humor. Others simply need someone to acknowledge that life is really hard right now.

We've never believed one message fits everyone.

Since 2015, we've created get well gifts and cancer care packages designed to help people send support in a way that feels personal. Because when you've found the right gift, you don't just think, "That will help." You think...

"That's so them."

That feeling has guided every gift we've created from the very beginning.

The Story Behind Our Name

Just Don't Send Flowers began with our dear friend, Angie St. Gelais.

In April 2014, Angie was suddenly hospitalized and diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. Like so many people who hear that someone they love is seriously ill, my first thought wasn't about buying a gift.

My first thought was:

"I want to help."

I wanted to send something that showed Angie and her family how much they were loved and supported—something that could provide even a small amount of comfort during an incredibly difficult time.

But I quickly realized finding the right thing to send was harder than I expected.

When I spoke with Angie's family at the hospital and asked what I could do or send, their answer was simple:

"Just don't send flowers."

That conversation changed everything.

I began researching and learned what many families discover during illness. Flowers may not be permitted in some hospital areas, fragrances can bother patients, and traditional gift baskets often aren't what someone going through treatment or recovery really needs.

But I also realized something else.

I wasn't looking for a gift because Angie had cancer.

I was looking for a gift that felt like Angie.

Something thoughtful.
Something comforting.
Something useful.
Something that said, "I get you."

When I couldn't find the gift I wanted to send...

I decided to create it.

And Just Don't Send Flowers was born.

More Than a Care Package

From the very beginning, our mission has never been to create ordinary gift baskets.

Our mission has been to help people find gifts that feel unmistakably personal.

Some people smile at a message of faith.

Some appreciate practical comfort.

Some need quiet encouragement.

And some laugh hardest when a gift simply tells the truth.

That's why our collections aren't built around one message or one personality. They're built around people.

Every blanket, snack, tote bag, puzzle book, self-care item, and message is chosen with one goal in mind:

Helping someone look at a gift and smile...

"That's so me."

Because we believe the most meaningful gifts don't just acknowledge what someone is going through.

They remind someone they are known.

Inspired by Angie

Sadly, Angie passed away shortly after her diagnosis, leaving behind her loving husband, four wonderful children, and countless family and friends whose lives she touched.

Her kindness, strength, humor, and spirit continue to inspire everything we do.

Our Saint G. collection was created and named in her honor—a tribute to the beautiful person who inspired this journey.

What began as wanting to help one friend has grown into helping thousands of families, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and companies send gifts that feel personal, thoughtful, and chosen with intention.

Because every person is different.

Every relationship is different.

We believe every gift should be too.

From our family to yours, thank you for trusting us to help you show someone they are seen, understood, and loved.

With love,
